January 19
CAS member Gregg Straley demoed Philips SACD1000 player, modified by Stan Warren and cryogenically treated & compared against identical unit in stock form not cryogenically treated. System consisted of Audiomat integrated amp driving Dunlavy SC-IV speakers, with Gregg’s Stan Warren-designed cabling throughout and various tweaks. WCES report.
February 16
James Ginsburg & Bill Maylone of Cedille Records spoke about and played several of their recordings introduced since their previous visit three years ago.
March 16
Eric Heider demonstrated the Acoustic Reality triangular eAR monoblock digital switching amps using B&O ICEpower modules & pyramid-shaped FronT-eAR preamp. The company is based in Denmark. The playback system also included Reimer Wind River GS speakers & Philips SACD 1000 player.
April 27 (4th Sunday)
Outstanding presentation by CAS member Brian Richardson on Music of the Baroque period, a his specialty. Brian auditioned many of his favorite recordings & provided a detailed handout of each selection played for all CAS mermbers.
May 18
Steve Deckert of Decware demoed electronics and speakers he makes and sells direct, including Zen Torii push-pull pentode stereo amp (12 w/ch Class A, ), SE-84C Zen Triode single ended amp (5 w/ch), & the Radial RL-2 speakers. Klipsch LaScala speakers, modified Pioneer PL-514, mounted on vibrapods, with Sumiko Blue Point Special cartride.
June 22 (4th Sunday)
Steve Huntley of Great Northern Sound demoed a modified Wadia 860 CD player, Bill Eisen of Creative Cable Concepts provided cabling, Jud Barber of Joule Electra demoed LAP-150 preamp and VZN-220 Rite of Passage monoblock OTL amps, Joe Lavrencik told about the isolation stands he builds & Dr. Roger West of Sound Lab described design features and principles of the full range electrostatic loudspeakers, demoing his top-of-the-line Ultimate-1 speakers.
July 20
Steve Sammet of SAS Audio Labs demoed: SE7.0DC SET amp, 25DCT triode, 2 stage DC coupled, push-pull monoblock amps, 10A Line Preamp, SAS Audio Labs interconnects, SAS Audio Labs speaker wire, System Audio 1270 loudspeakers. Klipsch Heresy speakers were used as well.
August 17
Paul Lacey of Audio Services Corp. demoed the following equipment: Opera Audio Consonance SACD 1.0 player, Sophia Electric EL34 integrated amp & Baby Amplifier, Von Schweikert Audio VR-2 Reference Towers, Audience cabling, Stillpoints and ERS damping material for tweaking.
September 21
Chris Own of Ack! Industries demoed his dAck! battery powered filterless digital-to-analog converter ($395), & gave an informative presentation. He used his Dynaudio Special 25 speakers.
October 19
CAS member-assembled system consisting of: Django transformer volume control & line stage loaned by Kevin Haskins of DIYcable.com, small prototype 2-way satellite monitors using Scanspeak tweeters & Peerless 5. midwoofers in sealed enclosures, powered sub with active & passive drivers, Parasound JC-1 monoblocks (400 W into 8 ohms), power cords and cabling by TG Audio Lab & Gregg Straley, modified Philips SACD1000 player & Ah! Tjoeb CD player were used as sources.
November 16
CAS member Gregg Straley demoed a chip-based amp purchased from Stan Warren, rated at 60 watts per channel. Also used were: Njoe Tjoeb CD player, the sat/sub speaker system by G&D Transforms used in October, cabling was a combination of Gregg's & TG Audio Lab.
December 21
Christmas party and music listening session.
