FEBRUARY MEETING - GREG GILL'S SYSTEMS FEATURING A CUSTOM KLIPSCH HORN SYSTEM, MCINTOSH ELECTRONICS, AND MUCH MORE

Thanks much to our member Greg Gills for hosting us at his house. Greg has systems in a bedroom, living room, basement office, and the large custom Klipsch horn system in the basement. There are also vintage radios in the dining room and kitchen. Please be careful in tight areas!

Here is a summary of what Greg has on hand:

Upstairs Bedroom:

Here you will find the first stereo components that were produced by McIntosh. The C20 preamplifier, the Mr65B tuner (always on WDCB) and the venerable MC240 amplifier.
Speakers are Klipsch RB51’s.

Main floor living room:   NAD 7155 receiver, MK sub, computer speakers and Node 2i streamer. Speakers set under a corner table, background music.

Dining Room:  1925 Grebe MU1 Synchrophase Radio. Best of its kind. Please do not touch!

Kitchen:  Zenith A508-R radio circa 1956

Basement Office at the foot of the stairs:  McIntosh C26 pre amp. MR74 am-fm tuner, MC 2505 amplifier, Luxman PD 272 turntable, Bluepoint oyster, Yamaha sub, late 60’s speakers by Luxman sold through Sears.

Main system in Basement:

Things always start with the room.  My hobbies and interests are all around, BUT think of everything as a reflector, diffuser or absorbing surface, ceiling included. Distance and angles always measured.
Five Input sources:  Vinyl, CD, Streamer, Reel to Reel, Tuner
Table and arm Well Tempered, Grado reference 3, isolating turntable stand,  Phoenix Eng. Speed control.
Cd transport is the Cambridge 650c, The streamer a Node X, run with apple mini. Tidal.  Both run to an external DAC.
Reel to Reel is a Teac A6600 with optional dbx II Model 128.
Tuner Yamaha CT810 (my first tuner, I just can’t part with it!)
Pre amplifier, McIntosh C52
Signal distribution uses two active and two passive networks:
Paradigm X-30 active, Marchand XM66 active, two ALK Engineering passive
Amplifiers:  McIntosh MC255 in three amplifier mode, two McIntosh MC30’s refurbished by Yves Beauvais.
Speakers- all horn system 7 total
Klipsch LaScala bass bins, Midrange horns Dave Harris of Fastlane audio, drivers by John Allen, tweeters are Crites ct125’s.
Center Bass Horn: Application of design By Paul Klipsch and Gary Gillum. Build details by Gary Gillum. One of one. Please see the link. Patent information is included. Twice the acoustic output of a corner horn, solid to 30, 102 db @1watt

Greg goes into further details of the story of the systems at:  http://www.chicagoaudio.org/greg-gills-systems.html

To conclude, Greg says:

'If by now you think I am Mr. MacIntosh please read the link above. Many of these things came into my life and at the time when I did not understand their history or significance.
Looking forward to seeing you.'
Greg
